The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAPNational )'s Executive Committee (NEC) has advised all of its members to raise the prices of their products.
The Association announced in a press release issued by the National President, Magnus Nunoo, that sachet water will be sold at 40pesewas, while 500ml bottled water, which was previously sold at 1, will now be sold at 1.50.
From Monday, December 27, 2021, the new prices will be in effect.
"The 500ml bottled water should be sold for $1.50, and the 750ml or medium size bottled water should be sold for $2.00." In addition, the 1.5L or large bottled water will be sold for $3.50," the announcement reads in part.
"Iced sachet water will be retailed at $0.40," they stated. The retail trucks will now sell a bag of 500ml sachet water in 30 pieces for $4.50. Mini stores will now sell a bag of sachets for a minimum of $6 each bag."
They explained that the price increase was caused by increased input costs, which included fuel, vehicle spare parts, and packaging materials, all of which are mostly imported.
The Association advised its members to assess their rates in order to maintain consistency across the country, emphasizing that in the past, producers had to bear part or all of these levies in order to stay in business. The local water industry, on the other hand, is rapidly becoming unsustainable.
"Unfortunately, any time the government slaps even the smallest taxes on fuel, there is a lot of public outrage. The public, on the other hand, ignores bottled water taxes, which contribute to the high prices consumers must pay," the Association concluded.
